Setting
the Standard for Physical Fitness DVR
enables a weight machine to vary the resistance it applies to a muscle
group throughout the entire motion of the exercise. The concept was developed
by Universal in 1974 following extensive research on the biomechanical
advantages and disadvantages of the human body. We discovered that maximum
conditioning results were obtained with the constant muscular effort DVR
requires. As a result, it became an important part of the physical standards developed for police officers by Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper, one of the country's leading fitness experts who is considered by many to be the "Father of Aerobics." Known as the "Cooper Standards," the tests include a one-minute sit-up test, sit and reach flexibility, a 1.5-mile timed run and a bench press strength test using Universal's DVR technology.
